Girardi... Possibly The New Yankee Manager

Joe Girardi went in for his first interview to become the new New York Yankee manager. Girardi had played catcher previously for the Yankees and now is interested in the open spot as manager. Joe Girardi spoke with George Steinbrenner and they quickly found common ground: Northwestern football. "I talked to him about their 5-3 record and that they were one game from bowl eligibility and that was big for Northwestern, so we had some laughs about that," Girardi said.
After meeting with the entire Yankee staff including the Yankees' baseball operation staff, George Steinbrenner, his sons Hank and Hal, son-in-law Felix Lopez and the team president Randy Levine, which whom he sent six hours with, he states "I certaintly feel as if I can fit in with this family of people and should have success if nominated."
Girardi was voted NL manager of the year for his performance with the Florida Marlins in 2005 and was offered a managing job with the Baltimore Orioles. He turned this down to stay with his father who was facing health problems and became a Yankee broadcaster the past two years.
